Mythos
From January to May of 2024 Mythos operated as a theatre company with the sole aim to produce a twisted fairy-tale take on the story of Medusa. In order to achieve this we were given £100 and were given access to a a theatre workshop. In order to create the set we utilized the workshop to fix up a wooden base with a wire frame and using paper mache, coated the outside and later painted them to give the appearance of big boulders that would be used as our wing space to hide from the audience in between scenes and store our props.

This performance represented the culmination of everything my company and I had learned over the course of our time at the University of Kent. The vast majority of this project was done with little to no help from people external to the company. We continually refined our show until it was time to enter the Creative Canvas Drama Festival, which we performed to a sold out venue and were later graded Firsts for the production. To me this project highlighted the importance of knowing a play inside and out from a technical standpoint, so that we knew how to create an atmosphere specific to what we had originally envisioned.

Early on in the process two of us went out into a nearby wood to collect dry fallen leaves. This was to create a semicircle for us to perform within, with the idea being to separate the real world from that of the fairy-tale the play was set in. The leaves were kept in a shed away from flammable materials and once we laid them around the theatre space we made sure to identify where the nearest fire extingisher was just in case something were to happen. Fortunately, it did not and the leaves were able to enhance our plays magical forest setting.
