The Permanent Way
Date
April 2023
Location
Guildford School of Acting
The Permanent Way is an astonishingly powerful play about the privatisation of the railways by the Conservative government in 1991. It is told through the first-hand accounts of those involved at different levels. From civil servants to high powered treasury thinkers, from investment bankers to those affected by the four major rail disasters that took place at Southall, Ladbroke Grove, Hatfield and Potters Bar as a direct result of this decision, including Survivors, and the bereaved families of those who tragically lost their loved ones. It is both a very funny and extremely moving piece of documentary verbatim theatre, which still stands the test of time today.
Through this performance I worked as the Deputy Stage Manager in the rehearsal room. I helped run rehearsals, prompted lines and created the prompt book. Once we went into tech week I cued the show and operated the sound cues through QLAB.
